When I was five, I had my first encounter with English. It was a little bit strange to me, so I certainly kept a distance from it. At that time, having English classes seemed to be a big trouble to me and I was kind of resisting it a lot. In my point of view, during that period, English was just one of the subjects that I had to learn. In fact, I didn't get interested in it. Gradually, I began to fall in love with English. This had been under the guidance of my English teachers. What they said was a lamp to my feet. From that time on, English has been my best companion. I love speaking English, writing English. I even think English is the most beautiful language except Chinese.
I was a kind of hesitating at first because I didn't think I got the ability to stand on the stage of the competition. I told my mom as soon as I returned home, but immediately she opposed to my thoughts and told me that participating in the competition was not for the final award but for the growth of my English proficiency. Although the result was significant indeed, the process would also be meaningful and unforgettable. What was even more crucial was the precious experience in the competition. My mom told me that I was always the best in her eyes. With her encouragement and confidence in me, I gathered all my guts to inform my instructor that I would like to take part in the competition. When I joined the competition this year, to be honest, sometimes I felt very bored to recite the new words but every time when I got the feelings like that I would tell myself not to give up. NEVER!
I want to give my sincere and deep thanks to my supervisor Xu Meng. I owe a big debt of gratitude to her. Without her guidance and instruction,my spoken English won't be as good as it is now. Ms. Xu tells us that communicating is the most important use for all of us to learn a foreign language so we all should speak it out loudly and bravely, which is a vitally important point should be engraved in our mind. Fortunately, we have a happy team led by Ms. Xu. We communicate and cooperate with each other, which helps everyone to exercise oral English. I have corrected a lot of mistakes on my pronunciations. I guess that’s why I can speak English more fluently than my classmates now and I'm so proud of myself for that.
I still feel a little anxious about the competition, but I believe practice makes perfect. I will be able to find the balance between work and rest. This precious chance really means a lot to me and I will take up the challenge to be a better public speaker.(高职组 非英语专业口语项目集训选手 13车辆贯通1班 吴佳超)
